A categorized directory of useful external links — partner societies, archives, online databases, vital-records sites. The "links" page every society has, made navigable.

What you can do

  • Add external links with title, address, description and category.
  • Group them by category (your county, your state, national, DNA, cemeteries…), in the order you choose.
  • Mark a link as featured, or switch one off without deleting it.
  • Import a list from CSV — including an EasyNetSites links export — and export it back with Export CSV.

How to add your first resource

Research → Resource Links, then add a link: title (e.g., "Texas Vital Records"), address, optional description, category. Save.

Categories help visitors find their way — a list of a hundred links is daunting; the same hundred grouped into ten categories is browsable.

How to import a list

Research → Import Links. Upload a CSV with title, address, description and category columns, match the columns, preview, import. An EasyNetSites links export is recognized and matched for you.

How to set up categories

Research → Resource Categories. Add categories in the order you want them displayed. A common starter set:

  • General Genealogy Resources
  • [Your State] Resources
  • [Your County] Resources
  • National Archives & Databases
  • DNA Testing & Analysis
  • Cemeteries
  • Newspapers & Obituaries
  • Migration & Immigration
  • Military Records

Empty categories don't show on the public directory.

How to put the directory on a page

Create a page (Website → Pages → Add New Page) and set Page Type to Resource Links Directory — the Resource Links screen offers to make it for you — or drop the Resource Links widget on a page with the page builder — it can show one category only, and a maximum number of links, which suits a "DNA resources" box on another page. Links are grouped by category, each with its title and description.

There's no automatic link checker yet. Every so often, work down the list and click through; switch off any link that's dead rather than deleting it, in case the site comes back.

If something looks wrong

A link isn't appearing in the public directory. Check it's switched on (active) and that it has a category.

Categories show in the wrong order. Edit the categories and set their sort order. Lower numbers appear first.

An imported CSV has extra or missing columns. During upload, match each column to a field, or skip it.

  • Library — for cataloging physical books in your library
  • Records — for searchable transcribed records (different from links)
